What is color?

Color in interior design refers to all tones, shades, and tints we see around us. There is a color wheel that helps us sort and combines different colors. The color wheel is divided into primary and secondary colors.
Primary colors:
Red
Blue
Yellow
Primary colors are universal colors that can not be formed by any combination of colors. Other colors are formed by mixing primary colors.
Secondery colors:
Red+blue=purple
Blue+yellow=green
Yellow+red=orange
Besides, there are tertiary colors that are formed by combining primary colors with secondary ones.
Red-orange

Shades
Shades are darker versions of colors. They are created by adding black to a color. For example, adding black to blue will form a shade of blue.
Tints
In contrast to shades, tints are lighter variants of colors. They are formed by adding white to any color. For example, adding white to red will make pink. Pastel colors are classified as tints.
Tones
Tones are created by adding grey to any color on the color wheel. Tones can be darker or lighter depending on the amount of grey added to a color. Most colors we see every day are considered tones.
Saturation
Saturation means the intensity of a color. Colors that are highly saturated appear vivid and bright, while less saturated colors are described as muted colors.
Intensity
Intensity refers to the number of pigments added to a color. The more pigment there is, the stronger the color will be.
Neutral colors
White, black, and grey are major neutral colors. Cream and beige colors are also considered neutral hues.
