#Interior
Summer is usually associated with loosening and relaxation. Sunny days, greenness, and sea resorts sound great, especially now when the long and cold winter has finally ended. However, as the heat sets in, the sun is not pleasant anymore and we try to find a cooling shelter. It is especially hard at night to get proper sleep in a room filled with heavy hot air. Good night's sleep is important to start the next day's challenges with fresh energies.
Nowadays, of course, an air-conditioner is a great solution to the summer heat, but it does have its disadvantages such as the high energy consumption and negative impact on the environment.
In this blog, we offer you some tips on how to keep your home, especially bedroom space, cool in the summer.
Lightweight bed blankets
Low temperatures in winter make covering yourself with a fluffy blanket a great feeling. But in summer, a heavy and warm blanket is the last thing we need. For a peaceful and cool sleep at a high temperature, 100% cotton fabric will be the best option. It’s breathable and keeps you from overheating. Another good option is a so-called towel blanket that is perfect for air circulation. As for the color, light colors or prints associated with coolness will contribute to a chilly place. Besides the fabric, the look of a blanket has a lot to do with the feeling of coolness. As the world perceived through your eyes have an effect on your physical state.
Cooling pillows
Hot pillows are the main cause of restless sleep. That’s why cooling cushions can be a great relief. To replace an ordinary pillow with a cooling one, you don’t need to buy anything. You can do it at home, all you need is an ice pack and a cooling gel to apply them under the surface of a pillow. For additional cooling, you can place your pillow into a fridge. However, a cooling gel stays cool at an indoor temperature.
Compact fans
If you miss the summer's cool breeze and want to get rid of the air conditioner, go for a small table fan in your bedroom. Placing a compact fan on a wardrobe or a makeup table, you will enjoy a pleasant and necessary breeze. Try placing ice cubes or frozen water in front of the fan to make sure the continuous air stream does not dry out your respiratory apparatus.
To create a cool breeze at home, people also use ceiling fans as heat is usually accumulated in the ceiling. This alternative is very effective and is used in a lot of tropical countries. Make sure your windows do not have gaps around them so the air doesn’t escape into the outdoors.
Mind the window gaps
When the summer heat is trying to enter your home, only air conditioners or other cooling systems will do nothing if windows have gaps around them. Therefore, check the inside and outside space around the windows. Whether it’s an incoming cold or outgoing cold air, make sure you fix the gaps. Otherwise, your home will be overheated and the air conditioner will use more energy to make up for the air leaks.
Window films
To avoid sun rays entering your windows, UV window film is an effective solution. Of course, it doesn’t fully block sunrays but provides UV protection. Window tint keeps your home warm in winter and keeps it cool in summer.
Summer curtains
Another effective way to keep your home cool is sunblock curtains. The heat is mostly caused by the incoming sun rays that’s why it is necessary to use a thick, light color and nontransparent curtain to block the light during the day. Try this to check how effective a blackout curtain is for cooling.
Clean air conditioner filters
If you didn’t know before, the air conditioner filter needs to be cleaned. To make sure the air conditioner works properly and effectively, find a professional cleaner for that task. This way their energy usage is normal and they will last for a long time.
